Management : qui décide de quoi à l'antenneManagement: Who Decides What, On Air

Third part of the glossary — after Programming, the question of power: who decides what, on air. The pattern I describe here is the most common in the industry: a chain that runs from the Program Director, who carries the editorial line, down to the station sound that translates it into audio. But no single structure is universal — every outlet is free to build its own governance. Some, for instance, choose a management committee: every proposal is challenged there collectively, regardless of which department or division put it forward, before it's signed off. Four notions to understand this mechanics of power on air. Click a notion to discover it.

These four roles work in a chain: the PD carries the editorial line and hands it down to both the Music Director and the Content Director, and the Station Sound is the sonic translation of everything they decide together. The next parts of the glossary will cover Audience — how you measure who's listening — and Commercial — how a station makes a living.
