J'ai commencé en 2003, comme Responsable Production chez Radio Nostalgie Côte d'Ivoire. À l'époque, on montait les spots publicitaires et les émissions en extérieur avec les moyens du bord, et personne ne m'aurait dit que vingt-trois ans plus tard, je serais toujours dans le même bâtiment, à un étage différent, avec une responsabilité différente, mais la même question en tête : est-ce que ce qui part à l'antenne est à la hauteur de ceux qui l'écoutent ?I started in 2003, as Head of Production at Radio Nostalgie Côte d'Ivoire. Back then, we put together ad spots and outdoor broadcasts with whatever we had, and no one would have told me that twenty-three years later, I'd still be in the same building, on a different floor, with a different title, but the same question in mind: is what goes on air worthy of the people listening to it?

Entre-temps, j'ai occupé à peu près tous les postes qu'on peut occuper dans une radio. Responsable d'Exploitation et Production, à superviser la diffusion 24 heures sur 24. Responsable des Programmes, à construire la grille et la base musicale. Responsable Digital, pendant onze ans, à faire entrer une radio historique dans les réseaux sociaux et le web sans qu'elle y perde son identité. Et depuis 2022, Responsable d'Antenne : je veille à ce que tout ce qui passe à l'antenne — animation, technique, conformité — tienne la route, jour après jour, semaine après semaine.In between, I've held nearly every position a radio station has to offer. Head of Operations and Production, overseeing 24-hour broadcasting. Head of Programming, building the schedule and the music library. Head of Digital, for eleven years, bringing a long-standing radio station into social media and the web without losing its identity. And since 2022, Head of Antenna Operations: I make sure everything that goes on air — hosting, technical, compliance — holds up, day after day, week after week.

Vingt-trois ans, ce n'est pas un chiffre que j'affiche pour impressionner. C'est le temps qu'il m'a fallu pour comprendre une chose simple, que je n'aurais pas pu comprendre en cinq ans : les codes de la radio et de la télévision sont universels — le respect du direct, la rigueur d'une grille, l'exigence envers son auditeur — mais la façon de les tenir change complètement d'un pays à l'autre, d'un marché francophone à un marché anglophone, d'une radio publique à une radio commerciale. Ce qui marche à Abidjan ne se transpose pas tel quel à Lagos ou à Nairobi. Et pourtant, personne ne raconte vraiment ce pont-là.Twenty-three years isn't a number I display to impress anyone. It's the time it took me to understand something simple — something I couldn't have understood in five — that the codes of radio and television are universal: respect for live broadcast, discipline in a schedule, a real standard for your audience — but how you hold to them changes completely from one country to the next, from a French-speaking market to an English-speaking one, from a public broadcaster to a commercial one. What works in Abidjan doesn't transfer as-is to Lagos or Nairobi. And yet, no one really tells that story — the bridge between the two.

C'est pour ça que je lance AntennAfrica.That's why I'm launching AntennAfrica.

Pas comme une école qui viendrait délivrer un diplôme de plus. Comme quelqu'un qui est encore dans le bâtiment aujourd'hui, qui s'assure, un vendredi soir à 18h comme les autres jours, que ce qui part à l'antenne respecte la ligne éditoriale et les règles du direct — et qui a envie de transmettre ce que vingt-trois ans de métier lui ont appris — en français et en anglais, parce que le continent ne se pense pas dans une seule langue.Not as another school handing out one more diploma. As someone who's still in the building today, who makes sure, on a Friday at 6pm like any other day, that what goes on air respects the editorial line and the rules of live broadcast — and who wants to pass on what twenty-three years in this craft has taught him — in French and in English, because the continent doesn't think in a single language.

J'ai aussi eu la chance d'enseigner, au Groupe Pigier, à des étudiants qui voulaient faire de l'audiovisuel leur métier. Ça m'a appris autre chose : la théorie qu'on trouve dans les livres et la réalité d'un studio ne se ressemblent pas toujours. Ce que je veux construire ici, c'est l'endroit où les deux se rejoignent.I've also had the chance to teach, at Groupe Pigier, students who wanted to make audiovisual work their career. That taught me something else: the theory you find in books and the reality of a studio don't always look alike. What I want to build here is the place where the two meet.

AntennAfrica, ça sera trois choses, dans cet ordre. D'abord ce site et ce magazine, pour poser par écrit ce qui change vraiment d'un studio à l'autre, d'un pays à l'autre. Ensuite des contenus courts, filmés depuis le terrain, pour montrer le métier tel qu'il se pratique, pas tel qu'on l'imagine. Et enfin des formations, en présentiel à Abidjan et en ligne, pour celles et ceux qui veulent vraiment y travailler.AntennAfrica will be three things, in this order. First, this site and this magazine, to put in writing what really changes from one studio to another, one country to another. Then short-form content, filmed from the field, to show the craft as it's actually practiced, not as it's imagined. And finally, training — in person in Abidjan and online — for those who genuinely want to work in this industry.

On commence par un glossaire — celui que je construis depuis un moment déjà, terme par terme, entre le vocabulaire qu'on utilise en français dans nos studios et celui qu'on utilise dans les marchés anglophones. Il sera publié par morceaux, ici, dans les semaines qui viennent. À la fin, il sera téléchargeable en entier.We start with a glossary — one I've already been building for a while, term by term, between the vocabulary we use in French in our studios and the one used in English-speaking markets. It will be published in pieces, here, over the coming weeks. By the end, it will be downloadable in full.

Je resterai seul à écrire ici. Mais pas seul à parler : quand un sujet mérite le regard d'un dirigeant, d'un financier, d'un technicien ou d'un animateur, j'irai chercher son expérience en interview, et je la publierai — sous ma plume, avec sa voix.I'll remain the only one writing here. But not the only one speaking: when a subject deserves the perspective of an executive, a finance lead, a technician or a host, I'll go find their experience through an interview, and publish it — in my own writing, in their voice.

L'Afrique doit tracer sa propre route dans ces métiers-là. Je n'ai pas la prétention de la tracer seul. Mais après vingt-trois ans dans une régie, j'ai au moins de quoi commencer à en parler honnêtement — et à ouvrir la porte à ceux qui voudront la continuer avec moi.Africa has to chart its own course in this craft. I don't claim to chart it alone. But after twenty-three years in a control room, I at least have enough to start talking about it honestly — and to open the door to those who want to keep going with me.
